Welcome to LeighWilliam.com, a space where life’s journey unfolds with intention, authenticity, and connection.
I’m so glad you’re here. As you explore this space, I want you to know that I’m not just a sailing psychologist and family mental health advisor—I’m someone who has walked the path of healing myself, time and time again. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly transformative, and I’m here to offer you the wisdom and insights gained along the way. The journey of healing has shaped my life and I’ve dedicated myself to creating a space where you can feel safe, supported, and empowered.
A Personal Story of Healing and Growth
My story is one of resilience. As a child, I lived through trauma that left me with the weight of PTSD, but I didn’t let it define me. Over the years, I’ve worked tirelessly to heal, learning to face and embrace the difficult parts of my past. My personal healing has not only allowed me to grow as a person but also as a mother, a friend, and a support to others.
As a late-stage cancer survivor, I’ve learned that healing isn’t always linear. It’s a constant journey, one filled with setbacks, breakthroughs, and moments of grace. Each challenge—whether it’s facing illness, trauma, or adversity—has taught me more about strength, patience, and the power of community.
Raising my four children added yet another layer to my understanding of healing and growth. It’s been a journey of patience, advocacy, and learning to see the world through their eyes. The challenges we’ve faced together have only deepened my understanding of how essential it is to create space for people to feel truly seen and supported.
A Career Rooted in Wisdom
My professional journey began in the 1990s in finance, where I learned invaluable skills in a fast-paced, high-pressure world. While it wasn’t my true calling, it gave me a solid foundation in business, strategy, and resilience. Yet, my passion for working with children and families eventually led me to change paths. In 2001, I returned to university to pursue postgraduate work in early childhood education and academic administration, a decision that forever reshaped my path.
Over the years, I’ve directed childcare centers, founded a bilingual immersion school, and worked as a birth and postpartum doula, midwife assistant, and childbirth educator. Through these roles, I’ve witnessed the profound importance of creating spaces where women and children feel safe, seen, and nurtured. Each chapter of my journey has deepened my understanding of what it means to truly support others through growth and healing. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to learn from some of the very best—and it’s an honor to carry forward their wisdom in my work today.
